Dem Tax Hikes Dead For Now In Oly
But We Need Your Help To Make Sure They Stay Dead
Thanks to the relentless efforts of Republicans, taxpayers, and the business community, the Democrat proposals to raise income taxes and sales taxes in Olympia appear to be dead for this legislative session.
But this is no time to relax. The Democrats are disappointed that they were forced to abandon their tax increase plans for now, but they are already planning how to take another run at raising taxes. We have to be ready to fight - and win - this battle all over again in the next legislative session.
One of the ways that all Republicans can help us strengthen our party and prepare to defeat those future tax increases is by attending the 27th Annual WSRP Gala Dinner Auction on Friday, May 1st at the Bellevue Hilton.
Jennifer Dunn started the Gala Dinner Auction when she was WSRP Chairman, and the event has never been more critical to the success of our party. Our theme this year is "All Hands On Deck!" - which reflects our belief that all Republicans must band together if we are to defeat the unprecedented onslaught of bigger government and higher taxes being perpetrated in Olympia and Washington, D.C.
The cost is $100 ($25 less than last year) and our program will feature Rob McKenna, state legislative leaders, and a Special Salute to Dino Rossi. All the net proceeds from the Gala Dinner Auction go toward funding the programs that will help us defeat the looming tax increases, and elect more Republicans.
It's a one-of-a-kind event that you won't want to miss! You can RSVP by clicking here, or call Anitra Beruti at our headquarters. (425.460.0570). If you are unable to join us, you can also support the cause by sending a contribution to our secure website.
Thanks for all your support. We need your help to stop the Democrats from raising taxes, so please plan on joining us on Friday, May 1st, at the 27th Annual WSRP Gala Dinner Auction. I hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
Chairman Luke Esser
Thank You For Helping To Kill The Democrat Tax Increases!
Olympia Democrats didn't give up on their tax-raising schemes because they were worried about increasing the tax burden on our families and small businesses. They gave up because they faced a determined opposition from our Republican state legislators, the business community ran radio ads opposing the tax increases, and grassroots activists from all over the state made their voices heard loud and clear at last week's T.E.A. Party Rallies. Give yourself a hand!
Change We Can .0025% Believe In
It would be funny if it wasn't so appalling. President Obama, in what he acknowledged was a merely symbolic gesture, asked his cabinet to find "efficiencies" to trim their budgets by $100 million. Let's put this in perspective:
· The reduction, House Republican Leader John Boehner said, equals roughly .0025% of Obama's $3.5 trillion budget.
· The federal government spends $100 million every 13 minutes.
· George F. Will pointed out that if the bloated Department of Agriculture absorbed the entire $100 million cut, this would trim its budget by .1%.
Obama's Release Of Interrogation Memos Endangers America
President Obama put politics ahead of national security when he directed the release of memos that detailed the interrogation techniques used to obtain valuable information from Al-Qaeda operatives (including those responsible for the 9/11 attacks). Not content with that setback in the War Against Terror, the ACLU and liberal bloggers are lobbying for show trials of the Bush Administration officials who authored the memos (these are the folks who kept America safe from domestic terrorist attacks during the seven years following 9/11). The big winner in the disclosure of these documents are the terrorist groups who will use the information to train their terrorist recruits how to resist the interrogation techniques.
Legislative Spotlight - Rep. Kevin Parker
In 2008, Washington was the only state carried by Barack Obama where Republicans gained ground in both houses of the legislature. We're fortunate to have an outstanding class of freshmen legislators standing up for us in Olympia, opposing new taxes and the Democrat policies that will drive businesses from this state.
After running a strong, high-energy campaign in the Spokane area's 6th District to defeat an incumbent Democrat, Rep. Kevin Parker came to the state capitol ready to work. With his background in small business as the owner of local coffee shops, Rep. Parker knows the pressures employers face in Washington. Rep. Parker recognizes the need to reform the way state government operates rather than patch the state budget with one-time fixes and federal money. Click here to see him explain how hikes in taxes and "fees" hurt the working poor. Thank you, Rep. Parker, for bringing a common sense voice to Olympia!
Democrat Policies Have Boeing Looking Elsewhere
Democrats in Olympia have made some absurd moves this year, perhaps none more head-scratching than a bill to make it illegal for a business to warn legislators that their jobs-killing policies might result in good jobs being sent to other states. Just to drive home the point that the Democrats were targeting Boeing, the bill took pains to include businesses involving "commercial airplane manufacturing."
Now a top aviation analyst says Washington's high unemployment insurance taxes and expensive worker compensation rates mean Boeing will move its second 787 production line to another state, and all 787 production might move if conditions don't improve. These high costs affect everyone in Washington, from giants like Boeing to small businesses in every town around the state. How many jobs will we have to lose before the Democrats hear the message?
