A Day to Remember

Our country, our freedoms and our way of life is fragile. America was founded in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all are created equal and given rights from their Creator. Our great experiment in freedom and self government is not guaranteed success. Today is Memorial Day. We pause to honor those who sacrificed so much so that we could be free. I was reminded of this quote from Ronald Reagan:

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

We commemorate our heroes and their sacrifice especially on Memorial Day, but they should be celebrated every day. We honor their legacy, by defending the freedoms that they gave their last measure of devotion to protect. These many heroes may be gone, but they will never be forgotten.
