Bellevue, May 1 – WSRP Chairman Susan Hutchison issued the following statement today:
“On behalf of all citizens of Seattle, we hold the elected officials of the city responsible for the safety of people and protection of property at today’s May Day protests.
“With Seattle’s Socialist Councilwoman, the rich radical Kshama Sawant, and her colleagues calling upon today’s May Day protesters to shut down traffic and block highways, the probability of violence is high.
“We agree with Captain Ron Mead of the Washington State Patrol, who has said, ‘Any rhetoric calling for the shutting down of freeways is reckless and irresponsible…. It’s unsafe for both protesters and motorists alike.’
“People can exercise their First Amendment rights without causing their fellow citizens to suffer. If traffic is blocked and chaos ensues, emergency response teams, families, children on school buses, and small businesses could be at risk.
“The results could be disastrous. Governor Inslee, Mayor Murray, and the City Council Democrats should be held liable for any failure to protect the people.”
