BELLEVUE — The Washington State Republican Party (WSRP) today released the following statement in response to Governor Jay Inslee forcing Cowlitz, Pierce, and Whitman Counties back to phase two under his Healthy Washington Roadmap plan:

“Governor Inslee is failing all Washington residents and small business owners with his ever-changing COVID-19 criteria. He is quick to say that the metrics make the decisions, not him, but he is choosing which metrics to use and when to change them,” said WSRP Chairman Caleb Heimlich. “In the last week, Gov. Inslee has already twice changed his own reopening plan. It is clear he is making arbitrary decisions, while hiding behind his hand-picked data points,”

“Reverting specific counties back to phase two, unjustly punishes small businesses that are following the rules and are opening safely. Gov. Inslee needs to stop playing politics with reopenings and focus on bolstering our state’s failed vaccine rollout. The science shows that the vaccinations are effective in protecting our most vulnerable populations and will eventually allow us to return to normal. It is past time that Democratic Legislators work with Republicans to reform the Emergency Powers Act. One elected official should not be given this much power over the lives and livelihoods of the people of Washington State.”
